The 27th of March signs a big day for the sneakers' world, in fact, we're approaching the 30th anniversary of the Nike Air Max model. Everything started in 1977 when the employee Frank Rudy presented to Phil Knight his idea: a shoe with air plastic bags inside the sole. After testing samples for quite 10 years, in 1987 Nike presented to the market the first Nike Air Max 1, and now, after 30 years, that model has become an iconic and unique style known to all the sneakers addicted.
For Air Max Day 2016, Nike asked to all sneakerheads to vote for their favorite Air Max of all time, which would then be released again in 2017. Nominees the Air Max 90 “Duck Camo,” the Air Max 90 “War Hawk,” and the beloved atmos x Nike Air Max 1 “Elephant,” which eventually won the contest. The model was called this way because inspired by the image of an elephant having a bath, and so after 10 years this colorway comes back to life and will be available Saturday, March 18 at Nike.com.
